UPDATE on Boca!!!!!
2-28-2010
Boca had her stitches removed on Thursday at Dr. Gumfory's office. The reporter, the photographer, and the videographer were there for the article for the Star Telegram. Boca did not like all the attention and having the camera put in her face. Dr. Gumfory did say he was happy with her progress and that everything looked real good. Her jaw is solid and stable. She is eating well and has gained some weight back.
As you can see she and Kodi have established a bond and the whole time we were at Woof Park he was right by her side. The share a kennel during the day when everyone is gone and like to nap close to one another much of the time.
On Wednesday we go to Dr. Ducic's office for the second part of the interview and I will be much more protective of her so she doesn't get so nervous again. I am anxious to hear what he has to say.

So today I thought we could use an outing. I took her to the Euless Petsmart for a little while this afternoon.
Everyone just made her feel like a princess and she got along with the other pugs. We only stayed for about an
hour and a half but it was enough to wear her out. So while I watched my cooking shows on tv she snuggled up real
close and snored very loudly for a couple of hours.

Okay so today was a checkup with Dr. Gumfory. He was very pleased with her progress. Almost all the swelling is gone.
There is no infection. She is starting to use the jaw more and more. Starting to open a little wider all the time. She is
drinking just fine. And another milestone. She can eat from a regular bowl now without making a mess. No more
special bowl for her. But she is still on a very soft diet and will be on it for probably two more weeks. She had lost a
couple of pounds but it is okay. She had gained so much before the surgery.
Last pain shot was Tuesday morning. No problem there either. The tongue will always hang out a little. I think it just
gives her more charm. And she is getting back to being a good guard dog. She will bark when people come in the
front door again. She loves to cuddle in the bed although I don't let her sleep there yet for fear of hitting her jaw in
my sleep. But her kennel is in my room which she loves.
Everyone at the clinic was happy to see her. I sent pictures and an update to Dr. Ducic. He was pleased.
Go back next week to get the stitches removed. And some xrays which we hope
will show some preliminary bone growth over the screws. More then.

This is Boca one day after surgery. She has eaten her breakfast and had a drink of water without any problems.
She doesn't seem to be in much pain and using the jaw as if normal.
It will take 6 to 8 weeks for complete healing.
Because of some missing bone her jaw is somewhat smaller so her tongue may stick out from now on.
I am anxious to bring her home tomorrow
Monday morning at home after my shot and breakfast
I got to bring Boca home on Sunday evening with all her meds, shots, and special food.
She was very glad to be home. She still gets a pain shot every 12 hours but she is
eating well although not drinking as much as before. She slept alot on Monday during
the day. She is doing really well and enjoying all the special attention.

Today was a big day for Boca. And what a great Valentine's Day Gift for her. This morning at 10 am Dr. Yadro
Ducic, a respected Fort Worth plastic surgeon, and Kevin Jackson, a rep with Stryker came to Westcreek
Animal Hospital to meet with Dr. Gumfory and give a little girl (pug) a chance at a normal looking face again.
Boca was a trooper. Dori Davis, a member of Dr. Gumfory's staff, monitored the anesthesia throughout the
case and Boca did great.
Dr. Ducic opened the lower jaw area from both inside and outside and used a titanium plate with screws from
Stryker to bring all the fractured bones of Boca's lower jaw into alignment. Boca tolerated the procedure well
and she was sewn up by one of the surgical residents that came with Dr. Ducic. The whole procedure took
about an hour and a half. You can tell from the pictures that her lower jaw now looks pretty normal. She was
waking up from anesthesia really well without any obvious signs of pain. I am hoping that she will be able to
pull the tongue all the way in when she wakes up fully. We will update daily....stay tuned....and thank you for
your support!!!

Henry Recuperating From Surgery
Update 2/26/10
He will be available soon for Adoption!!! Henry has returned to his foster home and has been in full recuperation mode, sleeping and suckling his favorite stuffed pug Douglas. Dr. Gumfory is thrilled with his progress now that he's moving his back legs separately at low speeds and making his way around on all fours. He is off all pain medication and is working on finding the best dose of prednisone to alleviate his discomfort and keep him as mobile as possible. He even tried to pug run with his foster sister yesterday, running and doing his trademark "quack-bark" with glee. We can't wait for Henry to be fully recovered, as he wants to visit all the meet-n-greets and play with his pug-friends and supporters. Thanks again to everyone for all your support and good thoughts; they have certainly helped!
Hi everybody, I'm Henry. I am two-year old little man with loving eyes and a strong spirit. I was found
in Canton, TX in October, having suffered fractures to my hips and possible nerve damage. Fortunately,
some compassionate people rescued me and delivered me to a clinic, afterwhich I was transferred to the
good folks at DFW pug rescue. They have taken very good care of me, and I've already had an MRI and
surgery to my right femoral head. I'm recovering from surgery now in my foster home, doing my physical
therapy and trying to regain mobility in my back legs because running and playing are some of my
favorite things to do! I need donations to cover the costs of my surgery, as well as any further recommended treatment. I am grateful for your support, which I promise to repay by joining a loving forever home as soon as I recover and giving lots of pug joy.
Thank you for helping us to rescue these
precious pugs like Henry. Please
