Sunni Starkes

Story

Sunni’s love for pugs started with First Monday in Canton TX and their infamous “Dog Alley”. Her daughter Abigail and a friend had snuck away from First Monday and had found a little pug for sale. She was able to talk the woman into taking only $100 for the little guy. Since Sunni would traditionally give Abigail $100 to spend at the State Fair of Texas each year, an event that was only a week away, Abigail said she would give up her trip for the puppy. And that’s how Bentley came home with them that day. Since then, they’ve been a pug family. They now have three pugs, two adopted through DFW Pug Rescue. Sunni has lived much of her life in the northeast, in Boston and then Vermont, as CEO of Starkes Funding Associates. The company specialized in board development and strategic planning, grant research and development and special event planning. However, with the adoption of her daughter, she made the decision to go into teaching which was more compatible with raising a child as a single mom. They moved to Texas to be close to family and to begin her teaching career. Retired now, she is happy to share her fundraising knowledge in order to rescue even more pugs
